Euro drunk food/doner madness alert! Kebab celebrates its grand opening on St. Claude Avenue today. The new restaurant from Pete's Pizza Speakeasy founders Benjamin Harlow and Walker Reisman serves up European style street food, primarily spit-fired meats in the form of doner and gyro kebab on house baked Turkish bread. Ian McNulty notes that the bread "resembles a fuller, fluffier pita." Casual is the name of the game here, with counter service, a brief but substantial menu also including falafel and Belgian fries on the cheap (plates max out at $10), plus young coconut juice straight from the husk. Breads are cooked in the wood fired oven that the duo built themselves, and the space also houses an art gallery that already features monthly shows. There are also plans for an monthly local upscale pop up, Margaret's. The restaurant has been softly open the last week or so, but now it's official. Everybody panic! It's doner mania!
