Scott Boswell's famed fine dining restaurant Stella! shuttered for good last Wednesday, June 11. Rumors of bankruptcy have turned out to be true with Boswell filing for Chapter 11 for all four of his business (including Stanley and production facility The Paint Factory) and Todd Price reporting that "Stella has not been profitable for several years. It was supported by the income generated by Stanley."
Stanley remains open at this time, but its future is questionable at best. Eater tipsters are writing in that the restaurant apparently can't make payroll this week, and Boswell is using a $200-$250/person fundraising event this Thursday at The Paint Factory "in pursuit of saving Stanley."
Meanwhile, Stella! employees are "admittedly bitter", only learning of the restaurant's shuttering the day it happened. They are supposed to get final checks this week, but some upper-level employees have apparently not gotten final direct deposits that were supposed to come through on Friday.
