Oyster season is coming to a close, with Casamento's officially closed for the summer as last weekend, making this year's New Orleans Oyster Festival one of the last opportunities to gorge on high quality bivalves (if you believe in the season and all). It's happening this May 31 and June 1 (that's this Saturday and Sunday), at Woldenburg Park on the river. Two dozen restaurants will be there serving up everything from oyster po' boys to oyster dip to charbroiled oysters. Plus non-oyster dishes like, for example, white beans & shrimp from Cafe Reconcile and pork tacos with slaw from Cafe Hope . There's also going to be:

· the P&J Oyster Shucking Competition finals, Saturday at noon.
· the New Orleans Fish House Largest Oyster Competition, Saturday afternoon
· the Acme Oyster Eating Contest on at 11:45 a.m.

Plus music both days, all day long. Is there anything better than festival season in Louisiana? Of course not.
