The New Orleans Wine and Food Experience have announced their 2014 Fleur de Lis Culinary Awards, and as Judy Walker reports, the big winners are Del Porto Ristorante in Covington (savory category) and Commander's Palace (sweets category). Del Porto takes Best of Show for chefs David and Torre Solazzo's heirloom tomatoes topped with crispy braised pork belly and gulf shrimp. Commander's Palace wins Best of Show for Tory McPhail's "unique" smores interpretation.
Here's the full list of medal winners, all of which you can sample during NOWFE's Grand Tasting (tix here) this Friday, May 23, from 6 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, May 24, from 2 to 5 p.m.; in Hall J in the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. See Eater's guide to NOWFE for more information about all of this week's events.
