The Pho Challenge, Swamp Pop, Rebirth Pale Ale, & More

UPTOWN— Dear Heavens, this is what the Pho Challenge at newly opened Pho Cam Ly (3814 magazine) looks like. Todd A. Price reports that "anyone who finishes a giant ceramic bowl filled with two pounds of meats and two pounds of noodles pays nothing and wins both a T-shirt and eternal fame. Losers pay $30." NOLA— Sarah Baird taste-tests three sodas from the Lafayette-based Swamp Pop this week. If you're looking for a summer refreshment, the Satsuma Fizz is "like a lighter, crisper version of a Sunkist." [Gambit]

UPTOWN— According to Robert Morris, "after nine years closed since Hurricane Katrina, Martin Wine Cellar's Baronne Street location will start construction next week" at their original site (3827 Baronne). Expect a late 2014 opening. [UptownMessenger]

NOLA— Here's a look at the cool new tap for NOLA Brewing's upcoming Rebirth Pale Ale. Also of note: A portion of Rebirth Pale Ale retail sales will benefit local nonprofit The Roots of Music, as will funds raised at the launch party scheduled for a release party on April 16 at 5 p.m. in the NOLA taproom (3001 Tchoup). Event is free with beers for purchase.[Gambit, NOLA.com]
