Just when you thought you'd tried all the new breakfast and brunch joints, Toast has come along and joined in the fun Uptown. Tartine's Cara Benson and team just opened the new breakfast expansion yesterday, and Sarah Baird reports: "While the space (former home of Laurel Street Bakery) is small, rattan-style chairs, light wood, and a warm chartreuse paint job make it feel both cozy and inviting, while ample natural light helps spotlight a gigantic mural of bridges over glistening water."
As for the much talked-about Danish pancakes, aebelskivers, Baird notes they're "delightful as promised, with a dense, fluffy texture and rich, egg-heavy batter" and fab accompanying toppings like lemon curd. Also on the menu: cinnamon rolls, huge biscuits as big as bread plates, and, of course myriad fancy toast options. Obey the toast, New Orleans.
Hours: Tuesday-Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Sat/Sun 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
