At long last, today is the opening day of Square Root, Chef Philip Lopez's and General Manager Maximilian Ortiz's high concept spin off of their Warehouse District restaurant Root. The downstairs will feature the 12- to 15-course tasting menu with seating for 16 in an open kitchen. The tasting menu is $150/person with drinks additional. Upstairs (called Root Squared) will be a more casual cocktail lounge with small plates, charcuterie, and a full array of beer, wine, and craft cocktails. Open Tuesday – Saturday: 5 p.m. to 12 a.m., no reservations necessary.
Since seating is limited for the downstairs tasting menu (which changes frequently according to the season and chef's whims), making reservations is mandatory, which can be only done online via Open Table or the restaurant's own website. Reservations are available from Tuesday through Saturday between 5:45 p.m. and 8:45 p.m. up to 30 days in advance. You'll also need a credit card to hold them. The very thorough FAQ offers answers to all questions about reserving, attending, and enjoying the Square Root experience. Seriously. ALL the questions.
