Humble Bagel has just opened on Freret, and this week critic Ian McNulty is all up in the kettle-boiled hotness this week: "The bagels I've tried have pull-apart, chewy interiors under shiny-crisp shells — in other words, the real deal for bagels."
As for proprietors Casey Mackintosh and Tara Mikhail, they "may add a lunch menu, and there's a larger blueprint to develop the business as a deli with meats and specialty foods." Until then, Humble Bagel has breakfast sandwiches, bagels, and coffee. Now open Thurs-Sun 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.
