Mid City will soon be teaching New Orleans how to Dougie once again, because the awesomeness that is Milkfish opens this Thursday, April 17 at 125 N. Carrollton (former Italian Pie space). Today, Gambit's Will Coviello has the scoop on some hot menu items, the booze situation, and all sorts of juicy lagniappe to know before you go.
Menu-wise, expect chef Cristina Quackenbush to offer fan favorites from the pop-up days including "kare-kare (oxtail stewed with peanut butter and fermented shrimp paste) and sisig (poached pig face in citrusy-sour calamansi juice)" plus daily specials. Check out the full menu right here.
Booze-wise, Milkfish is still waiting on their liquor license (expecting it in the next few weeks), so it's BYOB upon opening. However, bar manager Lindsay Allday already has a slew of cocktails ready to go when the time comes. Until then, order the specialty teas and sodas, which will feature all forms of exotic produce including a pineapple-cilantro-calamansi soda and a jackfruit-coconut cream soda.
In other cool Milkfish news, up-and-coming chefs will pop up in the kitchen on Wednesdays. Sundays will be service industry nights with $7 plates and drink specials (when license to booze is permitted). And Milkfish will do delivery. Yes.
Hours: Monday-Thursday and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday-Sunday 11 a.m.
