Limes Put Squeeze on Bars, Cajun Fire Wins Big at NOEW

NOLA— M.D. Dupuy reports that local restaurants and bars are starting to feel the effects of Mexico's lime shortage/price hike with some places like Casa Borrega having to raise drink prices, and others like Cane & Table Cure opting to stop using limes altogether. LGD— Beer whisperer Nora McGunnigle reports that Cajun Fire Brewing, which was founded in 2011 by Jon Renthrope and team, has won the Big Idea Pitch Competition at New Orleans Entrepreneur Week. They hope to use the $50,000 grant to find a permanent location, and are actually hoping to open nextdoor to upcoming Courtyard Brewing in the LGD. [Gambit]

METAIRIE— The Kupcake Factory hosts the Third Annual Cupcake Eating Contest Saturday, April 12, at 11:30 a.m. to support the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) at its "Krewe of MDA" Muscle Walk at Zephyr Field. $25 to enter, deadline is April 9. Tulane University will hold a Philippines benefit buffet ($6/person) from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, April 4 in the Bruff Commons (6823 St. Charles Ave).
