More on Artz Bagelz' closure, with Todd A. Price also reporting that a sign on the door announces that the shop is closed permanently. While Price notes that "New Orleans currently lacks a dedicated bagel bakery," he then breaks into this Cheer Up Charlie warsh-room number to soften the blow: "On Ash Wednesday, a crew was busy working on Humble Bagel... scheduled to open by the end of the month" on Freret.
Humble Bagel will specialize in kettle-boiled bagels and they've been many months in the making for 4716 Freret, a building that had once been planned as the spot for the Funky Butt nightclub reincarnation. D.C.-transplant Casey Mackintosh intends to use part of the building as a temperature-controlled room for his bagels and cream cheeses (which will be available in all sorts of fanciful flavors include praline and pecan), and they already have some swag available on Facebook.
