Mid City is getting a truly unique gem in mid-April, when chef Cristina Quackenbush opens the door to her new permanent Milkfish digs. Todd A. Price reports that the esteemed Filipino pop-up has found a new home at the former Italian Pie space (next door to Rue 127) at 125 N. Carrollton. If you listen hard enough, the faint sound of Mid City, baby, what what can be heard on the wind heading to various parts of town, because the area is currently teaching the rest of New Orleans' industry how to work it in 2014. Milkfish joins the slew of hot restaurants/bars to open in the area within the past few months alone, including MoPho, Treo, Namese, and Mizado Cocina. News also just hit that Fat Falafel will be heading to the former Maple Street Books location in Faubourg St. John. So, yes, Mid City, continue on with that fine, fine stanky leg.
Quackenbush revealed that she was trying to nab a Mid City spot back in January. Quackenbush recently posted a sneak peek inside the restaurant on Instagram, if you want a feel of what's to come. This is sure to be one of 2014's most anticipated restaurants, so do check back for opening alerts and a menu watch in the coming weeks.
