Congrats are in order for Commander's Ti Martin and her board of culinary heavyweights including Dickie Brennan, John Besh, and Edgar Chase III who, Doug MacCash reports, have won the bid to turn to former Louisiana ArtWorks building into the New Orleans Culinary and Hospitality Institute for a cool $6.2 million. While it's going to take about $18 million more to transform the space into the mega culinary/hospitality institute, this is very exciting news for the future of the restaurant industry and for fostering/devoloping culinary talent here in New Orleans.
Plans for NOCHI include the Delgado Culinary Center of Excellence, UNO's Master's in Hospitality Degree, Tulane Hospitality and Entrepreneurship, NOCHI Culinary and Hospitality School, and even a food/business incubator. The institute plans to open its doors officially in 2016, but parts of the building's long-term operations should go live as early as the end of 2015.
