Megan Braden-Perry reports that beloved pop up Nola Smokehouse will officially go brick-and-mortar on March 8, when chef Rob Bechtold and wife Emily open the doors at 739 Jackson in the Lower Garden District. The restaurant will house a retail section for housemade pickles and sauces.
As for the menu, expect Bechtold's take on the basics brisket, pork, sausage which some industry folks consider the the best barbecue in New Orleans. Bechtold smokes with a blend of woods, including hickory, apple, and cherry. There will be specials too (pork belly, anyone?), and a rotation of sides from remoulade potato salad to sweet corn spoonbread. Also, expect mac and cheese, though the duo are still debating on whether to do a creamy or baked version.
Hours are unknown at this time.
