NOLA: Shameless carnivore/listicle-pro Scott Gold looks back at the year o' drinking in New Orleans and names the year's most influential bars this week. Making the cut are Latitude 29, Treo, The Empire Bar and more. [Thrillist]

FAIR GROUNDS: Todd Price reports that Big Shirley's is now open at 1845 Gentilly Blvd. near the fair grounds: "The menu features New Orleans standards, like gumbo, yaka mein and catfish po-boys, cooked in a healthier fashion." [NOLA.com]

UPTOWN: Martin Wine Cellar returns to Baronne Street next week, Robert Morris reports. The long-awaited reopening of the beloved grocery/deli will also feature more parking than before (and security), outdoor seating, and a "Sunday brunch, as well as a new 'Four at Four' happy hour, with $4 wine by the glass and $4 appetizers."
