On Monday (12/15) Louisiana's first World of Beer location will open on Veterans Boulevard just past the Clearview Mall in Metairie. World of Beer is a national chain of beer bars (originated in Tampa, FL) with a focus on craft beers and breweries that are local to each specific bar.
The Grand Opening on Monday will kick off when World of Beer opens at 11am. Promotional giveaways will be rolling throughout the day, and at 9pm, there will be live music in the form of acoustic performer Casey Saba. World of Beer opens at 11am all week long, closing at midnight on Sundays, at 1am Monday-Thursday, and at 2am on Fridays and Saturdays.
World of Beer has more than 40 beers on tap, which includes local favorites like Parish Brewing's Canebrake, Gnarly Barley Brewing's Korova Milk Porter, and Abita's new Select series beer, Naughty Quaker oatmeal stout. As far as beer geek cred is concerned, the menu indicates that each beer is served in appropriate glassware and all staff are trained in the ways of the World of Beer to have knowledge of beer styles and, one would assume, ability to hold their own with both beer neophytes and beer nerds asking all sorts of questions. Glassware and staff knowledge are high on the list of what makes a bar a beer bar - contrary to popular belief, it's not just about how many taps are online.
World of Beer also has a snazzy infusion tower that can add essence of various ingredients - coffee, herbs, hops - into draft beer. The infuser will come into play for the bar's first brewery-focused event on Thursday, December 18 with NOLA Brewing. NOLA's Irish Channel Stout will be available for customers to put through the "Infusion Tour" all day long, then at 6pm the brewers will unveil a "mystery" firkin/cask ale as well as a specially brewed barrel aged sour stout.
Check out the food menu as well, it's supposed to be specifically created to pair well with beer, and there's a Sunday "BEERunch" with stuff like Belgian beer waffles, blueberry wheat french toast, breakfast tacos and chicken & waffle sandwiches. One thing people seem to love about World of Beer is its loyalty card incentive program, which tracks beers drunk there on a special app and awards glamorous prizes like gift cards, T-shirts, and mugs.
A second Louisiana location should be opening at the end of March in the Warehouse District downtown. Stay tuned for future dispatches from the World of Beer.
