New Ruby Slipper Opens, Phil's Burger of The Month, More

QUARTER/CBD— The Gambit reports that the fourth location of the Ruby Slipper at 1005 Canal Street is now officially open. Hours: 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on weekdays, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday. [Gambit]

LAFAYETTE— The Times-Pic's 58 Days Later zombies have sniffed out a king cake all the way from Lafayette bakery Poupart's today, but color them unimpressed: "This is by far the crunchiest icing of any king cake we have tried," Judy Walker writes. "It came off and tilted up in tectonic plates when slices were cut. The cake was not the red velvet we expected: It was standard, bready, rather dry, rolled around the filling. Try as we might, we could detect only faint red velvet flavor from the red-colored, dry-textured filling." [NOLA.com]

CBD— Phil's Grill does a Burger of the Month club and this month Chef Justin Jone's creation is inspired by all things Mardi Gras in Nola. The Andouille/Angus burger topped with Zapp's crusted red beans & rice, charred chive aioli and shredded cabbage will be served all February long. [Eaterwire]

NORTH SHORE— The TP also reports on a new Mandeville eatery of note, The Po Boy Company, where the roast beef po' boy is the house specialty: "This dressed beef and debris sandwich on French features a unique charred-top bread and comes in a fleur-de-lis basket for a quaint touch of local flair." Located at 1817 N. Causeway Blvd., Mandeville. Phone: (985)778-2460. [NOLA.com]
