Reviews for Counter And Galatoire's 33 Bar & Steak

This week Scott Gold reviews Counter, the casual, "humble" spin-off from Kingfish and Greg Sonnier, and finds it's more than just your average lunch counter: "The first thing patrons notice when entering is likely the make-your-own bloody mary bar." The sandwich selection "gives Butcher a run for its money" with the likes of a gator po' boy. There's mention of a veggie wrap that's not sad at all, but "hearty and filling," and also a crab soup "well worth a try." Counter is located right next door to Kingfish at 337 Chartres. [Gambit]

Meanwhile Tom Fitzmorris gives THREE WHOLE STARS to Galatoire's 33 Bar & Steak, a pretty nice rating, considering this "unlikely new restaurant" gets a lot of attention, but lacks the personality of Galatoire's: "Frank Sinatra Jr. also gets that kind of attention, but his records would disappoint you if you expect him to possess the magic of his father." Again: "A personality is yet to be found for Galatoire's 33. It ain't much like dining at Galatoire's, that's for certain." Also a bummer for T-Fitz: "The hash browns here are the worst I have ever encountered." -1 hipness points, and a $$$$$$$$ means it's not just the veal that gets the rib chop. [CityBusiness, sub req]
