Mint Modern will add to New Orleans' Vietnamese new wave this week, with The New Freret reporting that the restaurant will open tomorrow, January 16 (though a lone Yelper declares it's Friday, January 17). Either way, it appears that the restaurant is undergoing finishing touches, and will potentially be opening in the next two days. Mint Modern is owned by first-time restaurateur Jimmy Tran, and is located across from Dat Dog at 5100 Freret. The menu features pho and other soups, "baguette" (banh mi), bun, vermicelli bowls, and on the crazier side a kim chi burger, fried chicken and waffles, and Vietnamese Tacos. As for drinks, yes, there is bubble tea and a full bar with specialty cocktails like The Purple Rain (finally) and the Fishy Surprise which includes the fishy surprise of fish sauce all up in some whiskey and drambuie. Hours are still unknown at this time, as no calls to the restaurant have been answered.
