Home of ever-sinful eats on the cheap Freret Street Po' Boys & Donuts has extended its hours, and are now open until 10 p.m. Tuesday to Saturday, reports Robert Morris. The restaurant appeared on Travel Channel's Best Daym Takeout last month, and during the episode host Daym Patterson "repeatedly chided" owner Troy Rhodies for closing so early in the afternoon. Here's a clip of the episode in case you ever wondered if it's possible to eat a roast beef po boy in a car. Bad idea, buddy.
Granted, Rhodies tells Morris that "When we first came here, there was nothing on the street. At 5 p.m., this was a ghost town." That was back in 2009, when his industry neighbors only included Sarita's and Cure. Now Rhodies will add "po-boys, burgers, red beans, fried chicken, gumbo, wings" and more to the bustling dinner line-up on Freret Street that these days includes Ancora, High Hat, Liberty Cheesesteaks, The Midway, Wayfare, Company Burger, Dat Dog, and others.
