Chris Smedley's Pidgin Taking Shape on St. Claude

Borracho's Chris Smedley tells Eater that his highly-anticipated upcoming restaurant on St. Claude now has a name. Say hello to Pidgin, everyone, as in Pidgin English. Smedley says the name came about as a way to identify his interest in "doing a New American restaurant that merges pan-Southern influences." The menu will draw from Charleston, Georgia, Mississippi, Cajun Country, and other regions with a charcuterie-heavy approach to modern Southern cuisine, much like Borracho, but a tad more refined.

While there's still no definite opening date yet, you can preview all the meaty madness at Borracho? open seven nights a week, 5 p.m. to 4 a.m. at Kajun's Pub? which has a new menu dropping next week (Two Run Farms Lamb Belly "BLT," anyone?). Smedley will also be doing two Pidgin preview dinners at Dinner Lab on November 5, and for Feast NOLA on November 17.
