Todd A. Price reports that Serendipity, the restaurant opened by Ed Diaz and Chris Debarr almost exactly one year ago, is currently shuttered until this Wednesday, but "perhaps for a few weeks." Now chef Gabriel Beard, who took over several months ago when Chris Debarr announced his departure, is now also OUT and working at Restaurant R'evolution. Meanwhile, GM Caroline Harrington is moving over to Patrick Singley's new Marti's revamp.
The restaurant opened to much anticipation last year, but the location and eclectic small plates never truly caught on. Apparently neither did Beard's new menu of American classics. Now Ed Diaz tells Price he can't secure a long-term lease because the American Can owners HRI Properties are about to sell the building. The future of Serendipity looks rather bleak, but there is this:
Diaz hopes to reopen a restaurant in the American Can building, although it might not be called Serendipity. He's in talks with a potential chef whom he couldn't yet name.
