Joseph Kanode and Frank Randol, an experienced exporter and Lafayette seafood restaurateur, respectively, spoke to a group of Louisiana fishermen in Abbeville yesterday about the growing international market for Louisiana seafood. The duo insisted that seafood harvesters in Louisiana have a bevy of business strategies to choose from when it comes to selling their seafood abroad (such as becoming more tech-savvy and placing value on formerly-worthless seafood like freshwater carp), but other export experts tempered the enthusiasm with caution about the dangers for local fishermen in getting tangled up with highly-sophisticated international corporations.
