EVERYWHERE?Have you checked out Ian McNulty's comprehensive report about the baking renaissance currently taking place in New Orleans? Four new small, independent bakeries have opened in the last four months alone, and more than a dozen new bakeries have opened since 2007. Paleo dieters, you have officially been put on notice?carbs have invaded the Crescent City. [Gambit]
MID-CITY?Mark your calendars because in a little over a month, Gambit's inaugural Emerging Chefs Challenge will take over The Cannery in Mid-City. The democratic and well-mannered culinary battle royale will pit 12 chef finalists (including Brett Durffee of Bayona, Stacy Hall of Dick & Jenny's, Anthony Scanio of Emeril's Delmonico, Nick Lama of Gautreau's, and Cam Boudreaux of Killer Poboys) against each other for a $1,000 grand prize and city-wide bragging rights. A $25 ticket gets you a sampling of food from each chef, two drinks, and the ability to cast a vote (or sell it to whichever chef agrees to personally cook you dinner FOR LIFE). [Eaterwire]
FRERET?It should come as welcome news for anyone suffering from the dreaded Moooondays that Dat Dog and My House NOLA will be teaming up to bring Dat Truck Mondays to Freret. Starting August 5th, an entire cavalcade of food trucks will be parking outside of Dat Dog on the first Monday of every month from 4:30 - 8:00 pm. The first lineup will include: Nate the Pie Guy, Mamita's Hot Tamales, Grilling Shilling, Frencheeze, and Rue Chow. [Eaterwire]
CBD?On Friday, August 2, the Windsor Court will host the 12th Annual Summer Cure Chefs Wine Dinner to benefit Susan G. Komen New Orleans. The evening will be filled with live entertainment, live and silent auctions, and, of course, dinner prepared by an all-star lineup of New Orleans chefs, including Phillip Lopez of Root, Isaac Toups of Toups' Meatery, and John Currence of City Grocery. Tickets are $250 and can be purchased right here. [Eaterwire]
WAREHOUSE DISTRICT?Shhh, do you hear that? It's the soft whisper of you spilling wine all over your white clothes. It's almost August, so that means White Linen Night at the Ogden Museum is almost here to ensure that no one will be able to wear white after Labor Day. Break out the ironing board and starch for August 3. [Facebook]
