Cockadoodle this, y'all: the much anticipated Asian Street Food hotspot Lucky Rooster in the CBD opens this evening at 5:30. The rooster's dream team? consisting of Juan's/Slice royalty Warren Chapoton, former Herbsaint GM and wine guru Joe Briand, Emeril's Delmonico alum/wokstar chef Neal Swidler, and cocktail mastermind Christine Jeanine Nielsen? will be open for dinner service only this week, and expand to lunch next week. That's probably a smart move, considering that when word gets out about Swidler's crazy affordable noodle bowls, banh mi, steam buns and wok specialties, this place is going to be mobbed with lunchtime office escapees.
The restaurant has the laid back, kitschy essence Juan's and the casual refinement of Slice, kind of like the younger sibling who's going to interior design school AND becoming a tattoo artist at the same time. The menu looks to steal the hearts of the noodle obsessed. And Nielson's cocktails are refreshingly forward thinking for a casual street food joint, with a cobbler, a variation on a mule called "Juan's Donkey", and housemade sodas that can be served "tiger" style with some goodlooking boozy booze (ie. cardomom cola and gin, what? ya heard). There's obviously a big emphasis (and passion) for the housemade here, including Swidler's killer sauces, including sriracha.
Hours: Lucky Rooster is open for dinner service only this week, Tuesday-Thursday, 5:30 to 10 p.m. and Friday and Saturday 5:30 to 11 p.m. As of next week, lunch will be Tuesday -Saturday hours 11:30-2:30 p.m. and dinner hours Tues-Thurs 5:30-10 p.m. Fri-Sat 5:30-11 p.m.
