Ian McNulty reports that Covington-based coal-fired pizzeria RocketFire Pizza Co. is expanding to Metairie in the space formerly occupied by the much abhorred Huey's 24/7 Diner. Don't expect any funny business ala Huey's craycray owner Jason Doyle though. RocketFire is actually owned by a bunch of lawyers: Lewis Kahn, Michael Swick and Charles Foti (also a former Orleans Parish criminal sheriff/Lousiana attorney general), who are partners in the law firm Kahn, Swick & Foti LLC, and obviously love them some coal-fired pizza in their spare time.
The menu will be much the same menu as the Covington location's including pizza, pastas, sandwiches and salads, and appetizers. There will also be a full bar. RocketFire should open in August, giving competition to another McNulty-scooped coal-fire pizza expansion, Amici, opening very soon in the former Byblos on Magazine from the folks who run Jester Mardi Gras Daiquiris and Pizza in the Quarter.
