If you haven't made the drive down Jefferson Highway for a final fried seafood platter and a dirty boy po' boy, you're out of luck, because Charlies ain't dere no more. As of Friday, April 18, Charlie's Seafood has officially shuttered, and the phone is disconnected.
The iconic Harahan restaurant has been a neighborhood staple at it's current location since the 1950s, with it's beloved misspelled sign and oodles of fried and boiled seafood. James Beard Award winning chef Frank Brigtsen took over the lease in 2009, but recently lost it due to a rent increase the restaurant could not afford. Brigtsen has told Susan Langenhennig of the Times-Pic that he has no plans to reopen in a new location.
