The Hotel Modern's new restaurant, Tivoli & Lee, is now open in the former Tamarind space, serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Chef Mike Nirenberg? previously of Oak/Patois/Delachaise? has run the Why Not pop up in the hotel for the past few months, with a focus on local/regional food sourcing, and basically has been able to shape a menu of "Modern Southern" cuisine for Tivoli & Lee ie. dude knows how to cook some greens. His menu is divided up from smaller 'Snack' servings (hello, Manchego Andouille Tots) to 'Mains' with soups, salads, and small plates in between. Kimberly Patton Bragg runs the bar, really a craft cocktail powerhouse... whether you want bourbon based forgotten classics, a seahorse stenciled on your Pisco Sour, or a boozy glass of cereal milk for brunch, this is the place. The Hotel Modern's Creative Director James Stuart consulted designer Jack Dakin and Dirty Coaster Blake Haney on how to make the space look a little less "spa like" as Tamarind, as Susan Langenhennig says. Dark Blue Flavor Paper now covers the walls, featuring local legends like Louis Armstrong and Dr. John riding a carousel. The bar is now covered in copper. There are several funky paintings of famous Lees, from Bruce to Spike, plus, and an orange carousel horse was shipped in from Florida (land of strange carnie knickknackery). The restaurant plans to offer sidewalk dining in the coming weeks.
