Dat Dog Opening on Magazine & Plans for Frenchmen

The second location of Dat Dog, located in the former uniform store next to New Orleans Music Exchange at Magazine and Louisiana in the Irish Channel, opens tomorrow, March 15. Susan Langenhennig reports that the restaurant will have the same menu and vibe as the Freret Street flagship. Expect a colorful patio, a full bar, and hot dogs, sausages, and fries galore.

Co-owner Constantine Georges tells Langenhenning they'll be serving Guinness dogs and green beer for the St. Paddy's festivities this weekend, and looking further into the future, like, after summertime... A third Dat Dog is planned to open at 601 Frenchmen Street...

That will be new construction, and plans call for a two-story building with a wrap-around balcony. Georges hopes to see hammers swinging on it by summer and anticipates the construction will take about six months.

New construction on Frenchmen Street? Yes, you may know the future Dat Dog as the famous empty lot on the corner of Frenchmen and Chartres, where crusties, vagabonds, and many a night tripper attempt to make eye contact with tourists and hold DIY fire dancing demos. How many Dr. Bob signs wil it take to keep them away from the impending wiener patio? Only time will tell.
