You need to put on a flame retardant suit for this obscenely hot Freret news: The Three Muses crew have just announced plans to renovate the former Dunbar's restaurant, which has been shuttered since Katrina, into The Muse on Freret Street. Robert Morris reports that co-owner and songstress Sophie Lee revealed their plans to The New Freret business and property owners association on Monday:
"This one we view as food-centric. At Three Muses on Frenchmen, we focus on each thing equally, food, drink and music. We'd like to have music as well, but not the Frenchmen street vibe — maybe solo piano or acoustic jazz duos."
The restaurant doesn't plan to keep very late hours either, says chef/co-owner Dan Esses, who plans to do his signature small plates as well as regular portions and even family-size servings for sharing. As for the dining area, it will will seat about 50, and word is the construction crew is ready to go, so it's possible to see the The Muse on Freret opening in the Fall, or at least by the end of 2013.
