Everybody's favorite actor/Buttermilk Drop baker Dwight Henry has been planning to open two new restaurants in New Orleans for a while now, and it looks like they're both opening soon. Will Coviello of the Gambit reports that Mr. Henry? who you may also know as 'Wink' from the Academy Award nominated film Beasts of the Southern Wild? has been ridiculously busy traveling, filming movies, getting bombarded with cookbook ideas, and planning to open restaurants in Harlem with some of the Nobu team... But Mr. Henry has still found time to find a new business partner in Treme actor Wendell Pierce.
Together, Pierce and Mr. Henry will open a Quarter bakery/restaurant and West Bank bakery/cafe in the next few months. Both will be named for the character 'Wink' that Mr. Henry played in the Academy Award nominated Beasts of the Southern Wild.
An offshoot of Mr. Henry's Seventh Ward bakery called Wink's Buttermilk Drop Bakery and Cafe will go inside Wendell Pierce's grocery store, Sterling Farms, on the West Bank(5969 Lapalco Blvd) opening in March.
Mr. Henry will also partner with his agent and Wendell Pierce to open a bakery/casual restaurant in the Quarter called Wink's on the 1200 block of Decatur Street. Set to open in April, the bakery will serve breakfast/lunch/hot plate specials, and potentially provide bread to French Quarter restaurants too.
