New Orleans Magazine has gone live with their picks for the annual Best of Dining issue. The panel of experts making these picks was comprised of their "trio of restaurant writers" Jay Forman, Robert Peyton, and Tim McNally and the magazine's editorial staff, and they've included some interesting categories this year, like Under The Radar and Concept of the Year.
And because in New Orleans there's approximately a bazillion different restaurants and chefs that qualify for Best of Dining awards, the writers note that "with so much to choose from, making the choices was challenging." That being said, let's see who the Mag honored.
Chef of the Year: Michael Stoltzfus
Restaurant of the Year: Dominique's on Magazine
Restarauteur of the Year: Dickie Brennan
Honor Roll: Mr. Ed's
Mixologist of the Year: Steven Lemley Jr., Bombay Club
Under the Radar: Kristen Essig and Ste. Marie
Concept of the Year: Peche
Tiki Restaurant of the Year: Cane & Table
Bakery of the Year: Gracious Bakery & Cafe
Health Conscious Restaurant of the Year: The Green Fork
Vietnamese Restaurant of the Year: Ba Chi Canteen
Mexican Restaurant of the Year: Taqueria Guerrero
Steakhouse of the Year: Mr. John's Steakhouse
Asian Mash-Up Restaurant of the Year: Lucky Rooster
The Magazine also takes a look at "Resurging Ideas," including Food Trucks, of which they list some of the "more popular" mobile go-tos like Taceaux Loceaux, Fat Falafel, La Cocinita and more. Another trend, "fried chicken in every skillet," is basically a means for the writers to list the best fried chicken in New Orleans, of which they note: Liuzza's, Katie's, Mr. Ed's , Fury's, Galatoire's, Mandina's, Willie Mae's Scotch House, Lil Dizzy's, Jacques-Imo's, Dooky Chase, and Dixie Chicken and Ribs. For "take-out" chicken: Chubbie's, Chicken Sue's, McHardy's, and McKenzie's Fried Chicken.
