New Craft Brews For Winter, History of Hand Grenade

NOLA— Here's a slew of new beer releases to look for this winter, courtesy of NoDef: Bayou Teche's Loup Garou (Belgian-style chocolate stout) and the "latest barrel-aged experiment" with Biere Noire, 3113 (yes, Rush dorks, that is a play off of 2112), Abita and PJ's collab Macchiato Espresso Stout and Abita's Bourbon Street Barrel-aged Imperial Stout was aged for two months in Pappy Van Winkle Family Reserve bourbon barrels, both only available on draft. QUARTER— The Tropical Isle chain turns 30 on December 14, and Doug MacCash reports that co-owners Earl Bernhardt and Pam Fortner have planned 3 whole days of celebration. MacCash gets started early by enjoying a Shark Attack drank, and diving into the history of the duo's signature (and patented) Hand Grenade cocktail, which basically started one Carnival, "when they stumbled upon walnut-sized plastic squirt guns in the shape of hand grenades." CBD— Bring an unwrapped toy (NO stuffed animals though!) to Capdeville from December 15-23 and receive a free pint of NOLA Blonde. On Christmas Eve the presents will be delivered to Children's Hospital. Last year over 200 presents were collected, so let's keep it up, y'all. [Eaterwire]

CENTRAL CITY— Tonight, one night only, Ryan Hughes does Reveillon at Purloo. If you haven't hit up this pop up yet, this is your last chance before the new year. 6:30 p.m. cocktails, 7:15 dinner at The New Orleans Cooking Experience (1519 Carondelet).
