Offbeat's Jan V. Ramsey reports that some Frenchmen Street business owners aren't too fond of recently opened and relatively controversial theater and restaurant Bamboula's at 514 Frenchmen. The club's owners apparently haven't had much interaction with neighboring businesses, and the first three weeks have "included Bourbon Street-like barkers and fishbowl-sized glasses of mixed drinks," plus live music on a large stage. Early Yelp reviews are a mixed bag of 'tourist trap' rants and 'fantastic new venue' raves.
Ramsey also points out that in a vacant lot next door to Bamboula's "ground broke recently on a three-story property that's rumored to be a 'pizza restaurant/jazz club' with three residential units on the third floor." And there's also the impending Dat Dog heading to the strip, and Ramsey actually quotes a Frenchmen Street business owner as calling it "a two-story hotdog stand with a titty balcony." Neither of these upcoming additions seem, in particular, like harbingers of 'Bourbon Street West' as a place serving fishbowl sized red drank however.
