District Donuts. Sliders. Brews, yes, the Tastee-ish diner on culinary steroids, quietly opened their a little over a week ago on Magazine, and are working up to normal hours amidst hoards of donut fiends. While owner Aaron Vogel tells Eater they haven't made an official opening announcement, the word is already out about their killer donuts, and Todd A. Price further lets the cat out of the bag today with a first look at the upscale diner next door to Stein's.
District's pastry chef is Liz Hollinger, who's been whipping up donuts of the exotic variety? ie. maple Sriracha with candied thyme? and already making Yelpers transform into pleasantly amazed, almost-human-type beings. Coffee, including a regular and nitrogen-infused cold drip and milk, are poured bar-style through a line of taps. Add that to the sexy renovation, a sinful sliders-menu that becomes available at 11 a.m., and the fact you can buy a beer at Stein's next door and drink it with your meal, and well, you have a Magazine Street breakfast and lunchtime frenzy on your hands. But no worries, they also have a parking lot.
