What What in The Truck: January's Street Food Events

While only time (and city council) may tell if New Orleans' food trucking will ever resemble that of Austin's or Portland's, where people can wander through a veritable pumpkin patch of quick eats basically any time they feel like it, here at least, are a few options for getting your street food on this January.

They're baaaaaack. Yes, the ostriches return to the Fair Grounds Race Course this weekend, along with Zebras and a bunch of food trucks/street food vendors. A tented outdoor area called the Miller Time Beer Garden will have a line up of food purveyors including Woody's Fish Tacos, BBQ n' Some, La Cocinita and The Fry Bar, plus a bar and DJs. Racing begins at 2 p.m. Exotic animal races begin at 6 p.m. General admission is $10. Beer garden admission is an additional $15. [Gambit]

Culinary empowerment people/event planners My House host the first ever food truck rally on St. Claude Avenue next Sunday, Jan. 13. from 11:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. The T-Lot Food Truck Round-up will happen at the T-Lot art studio (1940 St. Claude). The six truck line up includes La Cocinita, Rue Chow, The Fat Falafel, Frencheeze, NOLA Girl Food Truck, Empanada Intifada and Grilling Shelling. Music and beer is promised. [NOLA.com, Eaterwire]

My House also brings the 2nd Central City Food Truck Fest to the 2000 block of OC Haley on Thursday, January 24 from 5 to 9 p.m. Trucks attending: Rue Chow, The Fat Falafel, Foodie Call, Mama & Me Soul Food, La Cocinita, Brigade Coffee, Dat Dog Express, Frencheeze, Empanada Intifada, NOLA Girl Food Truck, Grilling Shelling.
