In what's certain to be one of the hottest openings of 2013, the Little Gem Saloon is now serving up classic Creole dishes and Maylie's favorites from Chef Robert Bruce in the long-vacant historical building that was once the haunt of Buddy Bolden and Jelly Roll Morton. Ian McNulty reports that the restaurant and jazz club? which is owned by Nicolas Bazan, Charles Clark and Tim Clark? quietly opened around New Year's, and was working out kinks (and construction issues), but is now open for lunch and dinner. The live music starts this Friday, January 11, with the first performance in the upstairs music venue featuring Meschiya Lake and The Little Big Horns at 10 p.m. (doors at 9). A brass band brunch begins later this month.
