Wayfare, 4510 Freret Street
Projected Opening: February 1
Little has been revealed about Wayfare, the upcoming Butcher-inspired sandwich shop in the former Freret Street Boxing Gym. Well, get ready Freret Street, because inside that building is an amazing renovation with a full bar, a meat-curing room, a sprawling dining area, and a gourmet sandwich, salad, and bar plates menu created by chef Kevin White. Owners Ray and Vincent Arnona, whose family used to run Vinny's Sports Bar in Gretna and Dino's in the Warehouse District, plan to open in the middle of Super Bowl madness.
The emphasis is on house-made everything, from porchetta to mozzarella, as White has honed his skills with some of the culinary industries super chefs including Mario Batali. He also worked closely with pal Brian Landry at Galatoire's and Borgne. Wayfare is going to be a gamechanger for the area's sandwich and charcuterie offerings. The restaurant plans to open right smack in the middle of Super Bowl madness, and will be open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. If Freret Street gets any hotter, Uptown is going to need a dang ice bath.
