Adrian's Bakery, "the beloved but long-lost New Orleans bakery chain" is now cranking out eclairs and doberge cake in Central City. Located on Oretha Castle Haley Boulevard in the Franz Building, a strip of stores recently redeveloped by the non-profit Good Work Network, the bakery is the latest addition in an area trying to make a major comeback.
Marcia and Adrian Darby run the bakery, which had several locations around town before Katrina, and more recently opened up one in Gentilly. Ian Mcnulty says, "The praline cake — essentially a pound cake iced with a praline topping — is among its signature items." While Darby said she will bake bread if there is a demand, Adrian's Bakery is primarily known for their sweet pastries and cakes.
