Sno Dog Has Arrived; Root Makes the Top 50

OPENING REPORT?According to a press release from Skip Murray, Sno Dog, the Dat Dog snowball and frozen custard spinoff, has opened today. Murray plans to keep the place open year-round, but has assured the public that he will close Sno Dog if there's even a dusting of snow. [NoDef]

HONORIFICS?Bon Appetit's restaurant editor and former "Iron Chef" judge Andrew Knowlton has named Root one of the "50 Best New Restaurants in America." Knowlton will narrow his list to 10 on August 14, when he will also name his favsie restaurant in the land. [TP]

EVENT PLANNING?Nine of Emeril Lagasse's restaurants will participating now through August 15 in Julia Child Restaurant Week. Emeril's, NOLA, Delmonico and others have created special menus based on Child's recipes. Susan Spicer's Bayonna will also be offering a special menu in honor of Child, according to Ian McNulty. OPENING REPORT, PART DEUX?According to the Facebook grapevine, Roux Public House opened yesterday at 1910 Magazine Street. Executive chefs Zach Tippin and John Bel helm the kitchen, serving up "traditional New Orleans entrees and custom cocktails" in a historic Lower Garden District building. [EW]
