Hybrid restaurant/seafood market/boat dock Duke's on the Basin was due to open July 4 but, with no signs of construction getting started, word came out that the opening got pushed back to around Labor Day. Whenever the place finally opens, it will have a different name, as chef and namesake Duke LoCicero is no longer involved in the project. A representative of LoCicero sent the following email this morning:
As you have expressed interest in covering Duke's on the Basin, on behalf of Chef Duke I would like to inform you of a major change that recently occurred. Effectively immediately, Chef Duke LoCicero is no longer affiliated with the project in any manner due to a lack of mutual agreement regarding terms and conditions. When Eater followed up, the representative confirmed that the project will change names but did not know what the new name would be.While Duke is disappointed, he will continue to focus on his flagship restaurant, Cafe Giovanni, and Giovanni To Go, his newly created catering operation that brings the entire restaurant experience to you.
