Blackened Out blogger Rene Louapre posted this morning about the origins of much-buzzed-about mobile coffee shop Brigade Coffee, and the hope its strong brews offer for the future of New Orleans underwhelming coffee scene. After finding an old Citroen truck in Belgium, Brigade's owners really captured the hipster zeitgeist by having an amateur shiitake historian (yes, it's a thing) from Brooklyn outfit it for coffee brewing. The result, concludes Louarpe, is a coffee operation that does New Orleans proud coffee legacy justice and offers Obi Wan Kenobi-like hope that the city can look forward to more from its coffee than CC's and Starbuck's have to offer.
