The City Council is set to vote today on whether or not to renew the contract of concessions company Delaware North, which has run the food and drink options at Louis Armstrong International for the last 18 years. Quoth the Times-Pic: the company "appears almost certain to remain in place through 2018." The Aviation Board voted to recommend the contract renewal back in March.
The biggest update here is that Delaware North is partnering with Edgar Chase IV, the grandson of Leah and Edgar "Dooky" Chase II, the owners of Dooky Chase. Under the new contract, the airport would get a remote location of that restaurant, as well as WOW Café & Wingery, Zatarain's and Ye Olde College Inn. A handful of national chains like Popeye's would also open up under this contract.
The Times-Pic's David Hammer adds that "time is of the essence." If the new eateries are going to be open by the Super Bowl, they've got less than nine months to get everything together. Roger Goodell and company arrive next February.
