Toups Meatery is now open at 845 N. Carrollton Ave., at the corner of Dumaine in the renovated Mediterranean Café space. The brainchild of husband-and-wife team Isaac and Amanda Toups, the concept is very rustic, very communal, with both the small and large plates designed to be shared. As the name suggests, it's very meat heavy. Via the Gambit:
In addition to meat, cheese and mixed vegetable plates, small plates start with fried oysters with bacon and slaw, foie gras and artichokes stuffed with crawfish cornbread dressing. Large plates include a slider trio (with crab cake, rabbit pate and lamb belly), chicken thighs with gizzard gravy, that lamb neck and smoked duck with a satsuma jus. There will eventually be booze, but they're waiting on city approval; the Gambit reported that bar service would start today, but it's now been pushed back to tomorrow at the earliest.
