Clearly it's the cool thing to do for long-gone New Orleans-born corporate entities to give nods to their Crescent City roots. First there was Barq's with its throwback packaging. Then Ruth's Chris with New Orleansy cocktails. Now, there's Popeye's with perhaps the most substantial tribute to New Orleans: the fried chicken chain is giving $50,000 to help rebuild 4 of the city's playgrounds that still have not been rebuilt since Katrina.
