The nominees for Food & Wine's People's Best New Chef competition are out. The People's Best New Chef award is the crowd-sourced, by-popular-vote version of their editor-curated award; Eater National writes that, as such, the list of nominations for this "could possibly maybe be considered a short list for" the Best New Chef.
The list includes 10 nominees from 10 different regions, and New Orleans, obviously, is in the Gulf Coast region. Included among the chefs from Miami all the way to Oxford, Mississippi are Alex Harrell from Sylvain and Alon Shaya from Domenica. As with the People's Best New Pastry Chef, New Orleans' nominees are facing talented folks from much larger markets, so we'll need to turn out in force if either Harrell or Shaya are to get the nod. Voting happens here, and is open until March 11.
