OMG y'all, JAZZ FEST! The Fest that occasionally plays Jazz! And also has food! The powers-that-be at New Orleans' most famous fess, held as always at the Fairgrounds, have released the day-by-day details for this year, the ever-coveted "cubes" that tell fess-goers exactly when and where each act is playing. (Read about them on the music side here, here or here.) They've also released the list of food vendors. The list is overwhelmingly long with only three new items. All of the favorites are still there, including crawfish monica, Natchitoches meat pies, alligator sauce piquante and others.
As always, the Fess also features lectures and cooking demos at the Cajun Cabin and Food Heritage stages. Highlights include Chef Greg Piccolo of Redemption showing off his frog leg grillades with bacon cheddar grits and Cochon's Stephen Stryjewski making shrimp étouffée, both at the Cajun Cabin, and Greg Sonnier of the Uptowner making smoked alligator gumbo at the Food Heritage Stage.
