Tory McPhail Bringing 'SoBou' to Old Bacco Space

New, 2 comments

Restaurateur Ralph Brennan's Bacco left its spot inside the French Quarter W Hotel a little while back, in search of new digs. The space sat empty for a little while but it's now set to become a concept called SoBou led by current Commander's Palace executive chef, Tory McPhail. McPhail provided Eater with a couple of (scant) details about the project. For starters: SoBou?or maybe "Sobou"?stands for "South of Bourbon," referring to the whiskey producing areas of Kentucky and Tennessee rather than to the street. So, any state/region below that is fair game, from Texas to Florida to the Mississippi Delta.

Maybe more important than that, and consistent with its location in the Quarter, is the fact that there'll be a heavy focus on the booze. There's going to be a cocktail bar with a small plates menu, an Enomatic wine machine, and beer booths?tables with their own beer taps. According to McPhail, it should open some time in May.
