During Carnival, the New Orleans Hornets basketball team get a trio of special mascots: a King, a Jester and a King Cake Baby, the last of which is a weird, anthropomorphic version of the small choking hazard that (in part) defines a king cake. It's generally the creepiest thing in the world. WWL's sports reporter Bradley Handwerger ran a video yesterday in which he tried to get some background on the mascot, which quickly devolves into a noir-ish nightmare capped by the King Cake Baby chasing him through the back halls of the New Orleans Arena. "He's creepy. Soul-crushing. Spine-tingling fear," Handwerger says. He's not far off.
