Gieseke talks Atelier Vie; McNulty visits Faubourg Wines

UPTOWN? ManhattanJack, the bakery and coffee shop coming to Prytania's hot zone near St. James, Kyoto, Creole Creamery, La Crepe Nanou, La Thai and Upperline, will now be opening in January. The duo behind the shop, Jack Petronella and Coleman Jernigan, were hoping to open by Christmas, but are still busy with renovations. [NOLA.com]

MID-CITY? "Jedd Haas and his three-man crew distill absinthe (yes – the Real Wormwood Thing), and some vodka while also working on some other creations like rice whiskey. They haven't been in full operation for a month yet... The space is still as much construction site as distillery, but they're doing some amazing things." Craig Gieseke on downhome distillers Atelier Vie. [UptownMessenger]

ST. CLAUDE? Ian McNulty dishes about the $5 glasses of wine and free tastings at Marigny/Bywater newbie Faubourg Wines this week. He also says they offer, "a sort of self-guided approach to cheese boards. Pick your cheeses from the cooler, get some crackers or nuts or chocolates from the retail racks, and then (owner) Markel will make up your choices as a plate. Think about it in the style of assembling an indoor picnic." [Gambit]
